A few other "fun" blasphemies that Twilight vamps have:
Immune to running water
Immune to holy water
Immune to religious symbols
Garlic doesn't effect them (this one is debatable)
They can enter homes without being invited (WTF?)
They move way too fast (while they do move faster and are stronger, vampires use illusion to make it appear they move that fast!!)
They lack the ability to glamor!??!

bro... vampires aren't real... ok... its a made up thing... you can change it to whatever you want....... i mean thats like saying harry potter isnt really a wizard... i mean ok... hes not gandalf.. but hes still magic...
That said, both Harry Potter and Twilight are abysmal piece of junk overrated book series that made it into being abysmal piece of junk overrated movie series. They milked the former for what it was worth (actually, a lot more than it was worth, since it's worth nearly nothing), and will do so with the latter as well.
P.S. New Moon will be awful but I will watch it since Dakota Fanning is in it.

A lot of bad movies make loads of money:
Transformers I and II
Star Wars: Episode I AND II
Spiderman 3
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the F-ING Crystal Skull
Hancock - yes that's right, HANCOCK
Nothing new here, people.

They're fictional but they have basic "rules" which are respected by every other piece of work that I can think of. I'm trying to think of another vampire film where they are able to walk in the light with out some special circumstance (Blade was half human for example). Yes the other rules of how they die change from world to world but the basic rules are the same - no uv/sunlight and blood needed to sustain them. I'm with Rajah here.

Well I only read the first book and half the second. They were very very predictable and unoriginal, and all the things that I for lack of a better word shall call anachronistic totally destroyed the small but existing endearing factor that made the entire mass culture establishment have a gigantic boner for that particular novel series.
But that's just my opinion. If you liked them, you're better off than me!

Actually so am I, I was being sarcastic. On the other hand, vampires that don't die from sunlight:- Bram Stoker's Dracula (he was powerless in sunlight, not dead).
- Alucard from the Hellsing anime.
- Various half-human vampires (Blade, as mentioned, and I think Bloodrayne? Not sure, besides that movie sucked. Pun not intended).
- In the movie Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, vampires can stand sunlight if they wear skin from lesbians... Ok, never mind that one.
- Night Watch series vampires.
- Shadow Saga vampires only die from sunlight if they think they will...
- The weird AIDS vampires in the Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
- And more...

Does glittering not count?
The first book was hilarious in a see-how-many-adjectives-Stephanie-Meyer-can-lump-into-a-sentence kind of way. Recommended read. Srsly. The sparkling scene is tops, it's like the author couldn't decide whether Edward was a vampire, or a statue made from a bunch of completely different and random materials.
However, I only got through a chapter of the second book as the above mentioned perk is only amusing once. Thank God I didn't buy them. I assume the film is just as terrible.
@ qvtkc: I'll agree that the Harry Potter series is overrated, but they weren't terrible. Not anywhere near the same vein of mindblowingly awful writing that the Twilight saga is.
It might be a bit of a fad to hate Twilight.. But I can certainly say it's justified. :P

Fixed for you. I should know. Horrible weekend. :-/
EDIT: $140,700,000 in 4,024 theatres, averaging $34,965, according to Box Office Mojo.
EDIT 2: It's 3rd, behind only "The Dark Knight" and "Spider-Man 3", but it is the largest in 2009.

My condolences on your weekend. Your personal experience must have been torturous.
I was referring to the fact that older women are also caught up in the twilight mania.

I don't see why people should really care about twilight or the fans. People can spend their money on what they want.

Those people might be your child's wife or husband. Intelligence is in about 20-30% inherent. So there's a 30% chance you will have a stupid grandson or a granddaughter.
Also because their children will be stupid, and so on. Call it like you however you like it, I don't like the idea of stupid people breeding with other people.

I'll be seeing it with my girlfriend this weekend. Saw Twilight not long after it came out with her too. The first one was hilarious, namely because of how serious it tries to be. I imagine the second one will be as well, and the third one that's already being/been shot.
I'm glad movies like this exist, tbh:
1) it gives me something to make fun of.
2) it's so bad that it's funny (tie 1 and 2 together and it's almost MST3K worthy).
3) bonus points with the girlfriend.

Got dragged to it on opening day. Nothing creepier than an audience of women screaming like schoolgirls when a 17 year old kid takes his shirt off. I don't know whats worse, the movie or the idiotic fanbase.

Trust me, there is so much unintentional hilarity to be seen. Cheesy plot + bad acting + bad special effects = a field day for you.

/Shakes head at the whole twilight business.
Im glad neither of my sisters are into it, then again neither of them would read a book and they are probably still both obsessed with Hannah Montana *shudders some more*
And to think some at work said to me...
youve gotta go see this film twilight, you'll really really like it, it was really good, i mean you read those vampire books and stuff...
seriously, just no
granted i hadn't even heard of twilight until the movie appeared and waterstones decided to dedicate 2 or 3 whole shelves to book and other junk... and still not have what i wanted
I like my vampires not to be in the body of some little boy thing..

Well, duh. Traditional vampires aren't real, that much is for sure. However, that doesn't mean that their lore isn't. The lore of "real" vampires goes back thousands of years, and was originally put into a real fiction story by Bram Stoker (Dracula). It's like someone making a recipe for a cake to bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, and then someone else comes along and changes the recipe to "Cook at 800 degrees for 7000 hours", and you're like WTF?
The word vampire is a very empty word though. Twlight's mythos around vampires is all but bunk though, completely new age fabricated crap. The only thing they have that remotely suggests "normal vampire" is that they thirst for human blood. Twilight vampires are far to strong and fast for normal looking vampires as well. The only vamps that were ever capable of moving that fast or being that inhumanly strong were Black Court vampires, which alongside their extreme strengths, have extreme weaknesses, and look like undead.
Red Court (known as Chiroptera) vampires are next. They are very strong, very fast, and only human on the outside. They are the bat creature-esk vampire you also have probably read about. Again, totally fiction based from old mythos and lore, like their Black Court counterparts. They are known in lore to either be hiding under a human shell or transform into hideous bat-like creatures.
White Court (psychic vampires) are the last type that semi well known. These are the most based on reality, which makes them the scariest. In mythos, they feed on the energy of humans (in China, this is known and Chi), and can literally drain the life out of someone. They are sensitive to the sun, but don't burn up in it either.
While none of these true vampire exist, psychic vampire do exist in our world. They are people who "feed" on the emotions of other people, making they feel tired, weakened, or just plain awful. Most of these "vampires" don't realize they are what they are, but some do. The ones that do can control themselves and learn to adapt to prevent offending people. The ones who are aware are usually silver tongued (good at convincing people or manipulating), usually 'but not always' attractive (enter the seductress in the case of women), and confident.
When you are around one, you will know it. Their emotions are almost contagious, and they are like a blackhole where no emotion can escape from. You may at first be drawn into a conversation with one, but after a couple of minutes, you might feel uneasy or just exhausted of them or their topic. This sensation is different from just being bored or tired; it feels like you have been doing a lot of exercise without any of the other effects, and can take on the symptom of headache.
They can "feed" on anyone, but mostly, they do prefer those in a bad mental state of mind; those seen as weak or pathetic. Typically, that means depressed people, people with high anxiety, sleep deprived people, and people with entirely too much stress. These people are vulnerable.
You may know someone who is sort of like a succubus, but that doesn't mean he/she is. Frankly, I've only met one person who I think really meets the criteria to be a psychic vampire, and she would be borderline at best, despite her absolutely draining attitude and ways.
